Solid Oxide Cells

Solid oxide fuel cell systems and electrolysers are vital elements of the transformation of the global energy system towards sustainability. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) convert fuel to electrical energy with an efficiency of up to 60% and even higher. Solid-oxide electrolyser cells (SOEC) enable the efficient storage of electrical energy and the production of renewable synthetic fuels. Solid oxide cells are operated at high temperatures and advanced ceramic materials are required for their production. The properties and the quality of the ceramic powders strongly influence the performance as well as the durability of the SOFC/SOEC cell and stack.

Our portfolio includes state-of-the-art ceramic materials for electrodes and electrolytes of solid oxide cells, as well as ceramic materials that are employed in stack production. In addition, we can provide many novel and beyond state-of-the-art materials. Please proceed to our featured solid oxide cell materials.

Gas Separation Membranes

Gas separation membranes play an essential role in processes such as gas purification, syngas production or the production of renewable fuels. The two main types are membranes that let selectively pass through oxygen-ions and membranes for hydrogen production that let protons pass through. Common for all ceramic gas separation membranes is the operation under harsh conditions of high temperature and large gradients of pressure. The achievable flow rate and the durability of the membrane depend strongly on the ceramic powder that was used for the production of the active layers of the membrane.

We supply a broad range of state-of-the-art and beyond ceramic materials for active membranes from our selection of mixed ionic-electronic conductors (MIEC), oxygen ion conductors or proton conductors. Please proceed to our featured membranes materials.

Lead-Free Electroceramics

Many of the everyday consumer products employ electroceramic materials for their key components, such as piezoelectric actuators in an automotive fuel-injection system. For the past decades, mainly lead-based piezo materials have been used due to their attractive cost and good performance. However, the use of lead for this purpose has been banned due to environmental concerns (REACH, End-of-Life Vehicle), and a new generation of lead-free materials is required.

CerPoTech has a proven track record in producing lead-free electroceramic materials for R&D purposes and can supply materials of the BTO/BZO- and the KN/NN-system. Please proceed to our featured lead-free electroceramic materials.
